I often find myself wanting to view a game that someone has annotated but not having a program that I enjoy using to view the game. For instance, just a day or two ago, zibbit posted a game that I was excited to check out. I pasted the pgn into fritz (or chessbase, whichever it was, basically the same) and tried to read through it. I found myself becoming very annoyed at having to look back and forth between the board pane and the notation pane. I couldn't find a way to position it or reconfigure it that would make it less annoying.

I tried other software, too, and I found I hated the presentation in pretty much everything I have (and I have lots of chess software).

Why not, have a feature in some pgn viewer that will read the text annotations out loud after the move is played on the board. It would be pretty easy to just hack something together to do this, but the problem is that it would not work very well due to chess specific terms and symbols. A proper implementation would be able to correctly interpret things like 'moving the N to g7+' or similar. A normal text to speech engine would garble a lot of chess notation up to the point it would be nearly useless.

Also, why not make a reasonable attempt at throwing some highlights and arrows on the board when things like that are detected during the speech playback?

I'm actually kind of surprised this doesn't already exist.
